Neandertal Dark is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2018, created by Euan McCall. Dark opens with Grapefruit, Pine, Pink Pepper, and Ginger, settles into a heart of Caraway, Geranium, Incense, and Seaweed, and dries down to a base of Musk, Leather, Amber, and Sandalwood. It lasts about 6 to 10 hours on skin, carries to about arm's length and is best in winter. Neandertal's Dark carries an Acquired verdict, a woody-led wear.

Green, smoky and resinous: pine, ginger and pink pepper open sharp over incense, seaweed and leather, then settle into patchouli, oud and tobacco. Strong and unusual, for those who like their scents savoury.

Top, heart and base are the pyramid as published, not a timing claim. Each note's timing follows its listed tier, where it usually sits across many published pyramids (from ScentPrism) and its vapour pressure. A note comes through as the notes usually listed before it fade, judged from how other pyramids order the same pair. The thickness of a ribbon shows the note's share of what is left on the skin, which tracks how strongly it smells, because odour thresholds rise with vapour pressure. The shares come from how prominent wearers vote each note. It is a simple model, not a measurement.

About

Dark is a unisex Eau de Parfum by Neandertal, composed by Euan McCall. A leafy opening brings together ginger, pink pepper, grapefruit, pine and tomato leaf. Incense, geranium, caraway and seaweed form the heart, with vetiver, patchouli, oud, amber, musk, leather, sandalwood, tobacco and labdanum beneath. The entrance is vivid and herbal: green, spicy and savoury, closer to a crushed stalk than to anything sweet. Some people will find it sharp at first. Give it a while and the smoke of incense and the dry, dark woods come forward, and the whole thing becomes warmer, a little sweet and organic, with leather and tobacco rubbing against the resins in the base. It is a strong fragrance. Staying power is long and the trail carries well, so a couple of sprays are enough, and it can feel forceful in a small room. It suits cooler weather best, with the incense and labdanum doing their work in the cold. Think of Dark as an experimental scent for people drawn to herbal, smoky and animalic contrasts. It is far from a familiar fresh or floral style, which is its appeal.
