North Stag Expressions II Deux

Expressions DEUX II is the North Stag reading of Parfums de Marly Layton, opening with the apple and lavender pairing that defines the original's opening signature. Bergamot and mandarin brighten the top and the apple reads juicy rather than candy-sweet. The heart pulls in geranium, violet, and a quiet jasmine. Geranium gives the floral spine and violet softens the floral edges into a powdery quality. This is where the dupe diverges slightly from the original: the heart on DEUX II is a touch softer and the floral interplay is less prominent than on Layton's heart phase, which leans harder into the violet and jasmine. The base is the centrepiece. Vanilla, cardamom, sandalwood, patchouli, black pepper, and guaiac wood build the spiced oriental dry-down that gave Layton its reputation. Cardamom is the most legible spice, vanilla provides the sweetness, and the guaiac wood and sandalwood add the dry resinous depth that the original is known for. Projection is moderate-to-strong for the first three hours and the wear stretches to eight or nine on skin thanks to the extrait concentration. In the dupe-house landscape it competes with Maison Alhambra Layton 21 and Lattafa Asad as Layton alternatives, with Expressions DEUX II reading the closest to the original's spiced-vanilla core and clocking the longest wear of the three.
