Perfume Parlour Diamond Wood is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2015. Diamond Wood opens with Pepper and Saffron, settles into a heart of Rose, Iris, and Ylang-Ylang, and dries down to a base of Oud and Castoreum. Perfume Parlour's Diamond Wood carries a Statement verdict, a oud-led wear.

Perfume Parlour's run at By Kilian's Pearl Oud. The spicy saffron-and-rose-over-oud signature with its animalic castoreum edge is recognisable, but Diamond Wood tames the original's beast-mode performance and refined depth into a softer, more wearable take.

About

Diamond Wood opens spicy and head-turning - a lively saffron and black pepper jangle that mirrors Pearl Oud's distinctive start. It eases into a grown-up floral heart of Turkish rose, rose and a touch of ylang-ylang, with iris lending a faint powdery refinement that keeps the rose from going jammy. The drydown is warm and a little animalic: a rich oud underpinned by castoreum gives it that 'fox in a blazer' personality the original is known for, woody and intense without tipping fully barnyard. Against the By Kilian, this dupe reads softer all round - the oud is cleaner and less raw, the animalic castoreum more restrained, and the whole composition flatter than the multi-faceted original. Performance is good for a budget oud but nowhere near Pearl Oud's near-legendary 20-hour cling. A sophisticated, sensual rose-oud for cold-weather evenings that captures a pricey niche scent at a budget price.
