Shining Honour opens on a sparkling bergamot lifted by a liquorice-like anise, mirroring the bright-then-dark entrance of By Kilian Gold Knight. The heart is all about the honey: a rich, dark, boozy honey - the same famous facet that defines the original - smoothed with creamy vanilla so it reads sensual rather than sugary. The base grounds it with an earthy patchouli that gives the sweetness a masculine, slightly animalic shadow. Against the original, this Perfume Parlour version tracks the boozy-honey-anise character closely while pushing the honey a shade louder and sweeter and rendering the refined Kilian drydown marginally simpler.
