Azzi Glasser

Azzi Glasser is a British perfume designer and creative director, born in London in 1970. She calls herself a rebel in a traditional industry, and she came to perfume sideways: at 19 she invented a scented rock pot pourri that brought fragrance companies to her door, and one of them offered her a job.

She joined CPL Aromas, a Hertfordshire fragrance house, in 1991 and became a creative director at 23. In 1999 she co-founded Agent Provocateur Parfums, whose first scent won an industry award in 2001, and in 2001 she founded Family Three, which makes fragrances for fashion designers, beauty brands, actors, musicians and artists. She co-founded Bella Freud Parfum in 2013 and has credits for Illamasqua, Reiss, Topman and others on the fragrance databases.

Her bespoke work is the heart of her reputation. She makes private scents and character perfumes for actors and artists, translating a role or a theme into scent, and she has made signature scents for London hotels and clubs. In October 2015 she opened her own label, The Perfumer's Story by Azzi, and released eleven limited editions from her private back catalogue.

Her work is character-led. Each scent starts from a person, a role or a mood, and the house describes it by character and hero accord rather than fragrance family. The catalogue leans to woods, resins, musks and earth, with provocative or unexpectedly literal ideas, and reviewers note that she designs scents to stay close to the skin.
