About The Perfumer's Story by Azzi

The Perfumer's Story by Azzi is a London niche perfume house created by the perfume designer Azzi Glasser. It sells fragrances built around a character, a person or a story rather than a fragrance family, and each one carries a short character line and a hero accord on its page.

Glasser spent more than two decades in the industry before launching her own label. She began at a Hertfordshire fragrance house, co-founded Agent Provocateur Parfums in 1999 and Bella Freud Parfum in 2013, and built a bespoke business making private scents for actors, musicians, hotels and artists. The label began in October 2015, when she released eleven limited editions from that back catalogue, with the original formula numbers on the labels. The company was incorporated the same month.

The house style leans to woods, resins, incense, musks and earthy materials. Old Books pairs frankincense and myrrh with patchouli and cedar, Sequoia Wood builds a red wood with cocoa and white musk, Master Cedar is a modern cedar, and Ditch is a deliberately literal wet-earth scent made with a film director. Others are softer, such as the powdery amber of Amber Molecule and the green iris of Twisted Iris. Reviewers describe scents that stay close to the skin, and several divide opinion, so a sample is wise.

It sits at the luxury end of independent British perfumery. The main range is sold as 30 and 150 ml eau de parfum, alongside purse sprays, perfume oils, candles and a bespoke service. It suits wearers who want a perfume with a story and a point of view, and who enjoy woods and resins more than sweet or fresh scents.

Brand Evolution

The label began in October 2015 with eleven limited editions drawn from the perfumer's private back catalogue. Later releases include a department-store exclusive, After Hours, and a film collaboration, Kingsman TGC, both in 2017, art editions such as an exhibition scent made with a British sculptor, and a perfume oil, purse spray and candle range. The core eau de parfum range is now sold in 30 and 150 ml sizes, alongside a bespoke atelier, workshops and hospitality scenting.

Quick Verdict

A distinctive character-led house from a perfumer with decades of bespoke work. Start with Old Books or Sequoia Wood for the woody, resinous core of the range, and sample conceptual scents such as Ditch before buying.
