About Beyoncé

Beyoncé entered the fragrance market in 2010 with the launch of Heat, created in partnership with Coty, Inc. and developed with perfumers from International Flavors & Fragrances. Heat debuted in the United States on February 3, 2010, following her earlier work as the face of Tommy Hilfiger’s True Star (2004) and Giorgio Armani’s Diamonds, where she appeared in their fragrance campaigns before having a line under her own name.

After the success of Heat and its flankers, Beyoncé expanded her perfume portfolio with Pulse in September 2011, a line designed to reflect her on-stage energy, and Rise in 2014, created with perfumer Loc Dong at IFF and inspired in part by the writing of Maya Angelou. These collaborations were marketed through Coty’s Coty Beauty division, positioning Beyoncé as one of the more active celebrity fragrance licenses of the 2010s.

Following a pause, she returned to fragrance with Cé Noir, an eau de parfum revealed around her Renaissance era and sold directly via her official channels. Cé Noir was followed by Cé Lumière, an eau de parfum featuring top notes of Madagascar black pepper and Italian mandarin, heart notes of jasmine sambac absolute and rhubarb, and a base of Indonesian patchouli and skin musk, available by preorder on her website for around $160. The newer Cé fragrances mark a shift toward more tightly controlled, web-focused distribution and a more premium presentation.

Across the line, Beyoncé-branded scents often center on warm, sweet-oriental themes, fruity florals, and contemporary gourmand accents, packaged in visually striking bottles tied closely to her albums, tours, and visual aesthetic.

Brand Evolution

The early 2010s Coty era focused on accessible department store launches like Heat, Pulse, and Rise, emphasizing fruity florals and amber warmth. As the initial wave of celebrity fragrances cooled, availability of some Beyoncé flankers declined and the line became more of a legacy presence at discounters. With Cé Noir and Cé Lumière, the brand shifted to direct-to-consumer sales, higher price points, and more streamlined releases linked tightly to her current creative projects. The newer scents suggest a move away from mass-flanker strategies toward fewer, more curated launches.

Quick Verdict

Beyoncé fragrances deliver bold, sweet, performance-ready scents that appeal strongly to fans and lovers of celebrity perfumery. If you want subtle or highly nuanced compositions, you will likely need to look elsewhere, but for high-impact, affordable glamour they do the job well.
