Bois 1920

Italian niche house from Florence reviving a 1920 family lavender workshop into rich, long-lasting artisanal perfumes.

About Bois 1920

Bois 1920 is an Italian perfume brand from Florence whose roots go back to 1920, when perfumer Guido Galardi opened the Bottega Italiana Spigo and began working with lavender gathered from the Tuscan hills. The original family business closed in 1925, but the formulas and ideas survived in the Galardi family.

In 2005, Guido Galardi’s grandson Enzo Galardi revived the name and launched a new collection built around those historic compositions, expanding it into a modern niche line with over 30 fragrances. The brand name itself refers to Bottega Italiana Spigo and the year 1920, underlining the link between the contemporary collection and the early Florentine workshop. Bois 1920 is now owned by Arnoway Srl, and its creations have gained international recognition, including being selected among the top five olfactory expressions at the FiFi Awards in New York in 2012.

The house emphasizes artisanal production, long-lasting formulas, and a focus on quality raw materials, often highlighting the character of individual essences. Signature lines such as the Oro collection, featuring Oro 1920, Oro Nero, Oro Rosa, Oro Bianco, and Oro Rosso, illustrate the brand’s preference for rich blends that balance traditional Italian perfumery with contemporary themes like amber, woods, florals, and oriental accords.

Brand Evolution

Bois 1920 began as a small Florentine workshop centered on Tuscan lavender and simple perfume products, then disappeared for decades after closing in 1925. The 2005 relaunch shifted the brand into the modern niche space, expanding the range into numerous collections that explore amber, woods, orientals, and contemporary florals while still referencing the original lavender heritage. Over time, the house has moved from a small set of reinterpretations to a broad catalog, including collaborations such as Elite Zhor, while maintaining an artisanal positioning.

Quick Verdict

Bois 1920 is a solid choice if you like rich, classically styled niche perfumery with good longevity and a clear Italian identity. If you prefer ultra-minimal, fresh, or very experimental scents, this house will feel heavy and occasionally conservative.
