About Marina Barcenilla Parfums

Marina Barcenilla Parfums is an independent British perfume house founded by the perfumer Marina Barcenilla. It began on 6 June 2011 as The Perfume Garden, a small artisan perfumery in the West Country, set up to return to more traditional ways of making perfume. Barcenilla blended by hand in her own studio, and the first range of six perfumes was originally blended to order.

In 2016 India won the Fragrance Foundation UK Award for Best New Independent Fragrance, and the house then took her name. Black Osmanthus won the same award a year later, and the brand has also been recognised as a natural perfume brand. The studio is in Glastonbury. Barcenilla also runs AromAtom, a second brand that links fragrance to space science.

The style is nature-led and story-led. The house says its aim is to create the finest fragrances using what nature has to offer. Product pages name materials such as Indian jasmine, frankincense, sandalwood and rose, and some note that a perfume holds multiple oils of the same material. Each perfume comes with a short story about the experience behind it. India is a warm, spiced floral over amber and sandalwood. Patchouli Clouds is a patchouli and rose composition on an incense base. Black Osmanthus is a leathery, smoky floral with rum. Spring Rain is a fresh herbal eau de toilette with mint, lavender and tree moss.

Marina Barcenilla Parfums sits among independent and artisan houses rather than designer brands. It is a small, founder-led range sold through its own website and through independent stockists in Spain, other European countries and the United States. It suits wearers who want a personal, naturally textured perfume with a clear story and a perfumer they can follow.

Brand Evolution

Launched in 2011 as The Perfume Garden with six hand-blended perfumes, the house took the Marina Barcenilla Parfums name after India won in 2016. Black Osmanthus followed in 2017, and the founder has since added the science-led AromAtom brand and a perfumery school.

Quick Verdict

A small independent house with a clear natural-material voice and a story for every perfume. India and Patchouli Clouds are the warm, rich entry points, and Spring Rain is the fresher, herbal way in.
