Assam Tea is a tea note for strong, malty black tea. It smells warm, dry and tannic, with hay and tobacco-like leaf and a faint honeyed sweetness. It is dark and full-bodied, not green or airy.

Assam Tea smells of strong, malty black tea. Dry leaf, hay and a tobacco-like note come first, with a tannic, mouth-drying edge. A toasted, grainy malt and a faint honeyed sweetness sit under it. It dries to a papery, woody warmth with a trace of leather, earth and smoke.

Origin

Assam Tea is an accord or an extract based on black tea from Assam, India. The plant is Camellia sinensis var. assamica. Black tea extracts come from fermented (oxidised) leaves, by solvent extraction for an absolute or by CO2 extraction. Suppliers sell them as black tea, not by region. Robertet's absolute uses Ceylon leaves. No single standard Assam ingredient exists.

Usage in Perfumery

Perfumers use Assam Tea in the heart to add body and warmth. It pairs with citrus such as grapefruit, with cardamom and rose, and with woods and musks. It softens brightness and adds a brewed, dry warmth.
