Burmese oud is agarwood oil, and traders describe two different smells under the name. One reading is dark and rich: honeyed, close to melted chocolate, with soft leather and suede, a balsamic amber depth, wild berry fruitiness, a smoky edge and a damp earthy floor, closed by a musky animal warmth. The other reading is cleaner, closer to mineral and citrus than to the barnyard character of the first. Dry, woody bark runs under both.

Oil distilled from Aquilaria wood grown in Burma/Myanmar, one named batch coming from the forest near Meiktila. It is an artisan trade, not a house material, so there is no standard product and batch identity carries the character. No fragrance manufacturer olfactive description of oud was found.
