About

Hashish is the pressed, cured resin of the cannabis plant, and in perfumery it is always a built accord rather than an extract. It smells resinous first, then earthy, with a heavy herbal warmth over it and a smoky, spicy drydown. It is darker, less green and less skunky than the fresh plant. No house sells a material under this name.

Scent Profile

Amber_resinous leads because the word 'resinous' opens both of Premiere Peau's summary lines and the build list names labdanum and benzoin outright. Earthy is second and is the only facet both sources make dominant independently: 'damp earth' and 'earthy, spicy undertow' from the perfumery glossary, 'deep, earthy, spicy' from the cannabis source, and 'warm, earthy residue' as the stated drydown. Aromatic_herbal is the terpene body, which Premiere Peau calls 'a heavy, narcotic herbaceousness' and builds from clary sage. Smoky comes from two places that agree: cade and birch tar are named in the formula, and both sources put wood smoke in the description, with the note turning 'smokier, less green' after a few hours. Green is the opening 'green herbal burst' and the comparative claim that hashish is 'more vegetal than any resin'. It carries the widest spread in the vector because the same page says the green fades within hours, so a single number has to stand for a facet that moves. Warm_spice is clove and black pepper, named by both sources and attributed to hashinene by the second. Dry_woody is the pine and the wood-smoke woodiness. Below the line, fresh_spice holds the 'peppery terpenes' of the opening, sweet_vanillic the 'slightly sweet' and 'spicy-sweet' framing, mineral the 'a little metallic' remark, and leather the leather that Fragrantica's own group prose reports. Sulphurous is set rather than zero on purpose: no hashish source mentions skunk, but the published cannabis note carries sulphurous and hashish is the same plant's resin, so a hard zero would assert an absence nobody stated. The spread on it is 0.15, as wide as the value.

Reconstructed. Premiere Peau states plainly that the hashish accord 'is typically reconstructed from synthetic terpenes and natural resins rather than directly extracted from cannabis resin', and names the palette: myrcene and beta-caryophyllene for the herbal-spicy terpenes, cade or birch tar for smoke, labdanum and benzoin for resin, and galbanum or clary sage for the green top. Where a real cannabis material is used it is an absolute or CO2 fraction of industrial hemp flower at THC below 0.3%, which is legal in most jurisdictions. The cannabis-industry source explains why the resin smells different from the plant: fresh flower is myrcene- and pinene-forward and those evaporate fast, while pressing and ageing oxidise the terpenes into heavier compounds, hashinene among them, which is what gives cured hash its deeper earthy-spicy aroma.

Usage in Perfumery

A narcotic, resinous modifier in ambers, incenses and deliberately transgressive compositions. It gives an amber base a vegetal, unclean edge that labdanum alone does not have. Black pepper and clove support it well, and the reason is chemical rather than stylistic: beta-caryophyllene is shared between them and the hashish accord.
