About
Hashish is the pressed, cured resin of the cannabis plant. In perfumery it is always a built accord, not an extract. It smells resinous first, then earthy, with a heavy herbal warmth over it and a smoky, spicy drydown. It is darker, less green and less skunky than the fresh plant.
Scent Profile
Hashish smells resinous first, dark and heavy like labdanum and benzoin. Damp earth follows close behind, with a spicy undertow. A heavy, narcotic herbal warmth sits over it, with a faint camphor lift. Incense and wood smoke build through the drydown, over a dark balsamic depth and sometimes a trace of leather. A green, vegetal burst opens it but fades within hours. Clove and black pepper run alongside a dry, pine-like wood. It reads darker and less green than the fresh plant.

Origin
Reconstructed. The accord is built from synthetic terpenes and natural resins, not from cannabis resin. The palette is myrcene and beta-caryophyllene for the herbal-spicy terpenes, cade or birch tar for smoke, labdanum and benzoin for resin, and galbanum or clary sage for the green top. Where a real cannabis material is used, it is an absolute or CO2 extract of industrial hemp flower with less than 0.3% THC. Real hashish smells different from the fresh flower because light and air change its terpenes while it is made. Light turns some of the myrcene into hashishene, a monoterpene that is rare outside hashish.
Usage in Perfumery
A narcotic, resinous modifier in ambers, incenses and deliberately transgressive compositions. It gives an amber base a vegetal, unclean edge that labdanum alone does not have. Black pepper and clove support it well. Both contain beta-caryophyllene, which the accord shares.
