Note Profile
Green Hazelnut
Warm, toasty nut with sweet, slightly chocolate character
Hazelnut has a warm, toasty aroma with pronounced nutty facets and a subtle sweetness reminiscent of praline or chocolate. Its scent can evoke creamy, roasted, and slightly woody undertones that deepen as it develops. The note often imparts a comforting, edible quality to compositions.
Hazelnut essence is typically produced through extraction of the roasted nut or by using natural isolates and aroma molecules such as furaneol and pyrazines. In perfumery, both natural extracts and synthetic recreations are used to achieve the desired gourmand effect.
Perfumers use hazelnut primarily in the heart or base of gourmand and oriental fragrances to add depth and warmth. It blends well with vanilla, cocoa, woods, and creamy notes, and can also complement fruity or floral accords for added richness.
Perfumers known for using Hazelnut include Bertrand Duchaufour , Olivier Cresp , Julie Massé , Quentin Bisch , Sarah McCartney , and Fabrice Pellegrin .
