About

A fantasy textile accord that reconstructs the smell of worn, washed denim. It is not new fabric off the roll. Both sources describe the same three parts: a clean laundered base, a faint metallic thread standing in for indigo dye, and the warmth of the person who wore the jeans.

Scent Profile

Clean_musk is the spine and does most of the work: laundered cotton, soft and low, and it is what the note ends on as 'a faint, clean-musky residue'. Mineral is the metallic tang of indigo dye, described as 'closer to biting aluminium foil' in feel than to any warm note, and it is the single facet that separates jeans from a plain washed-linen note. Aquatic_ozonic carries the other half of the same indigo impression, the 'faint ozonic-indigo thread' at the opening. Aldehydic is the crisp cotton lift the source attributes to 'transparent musks, aldehydes'. Below the naming line, powdery sits for the softness of broken-in cloth and animalic for the 'subtle, slightly salty skin trace' and body warmth, which the source calls barely perceptible in the reconstruction. Creamy_woody is the sandalwood-adjacent warmth of Cashmeran, named only as one option among several. Nothing here is sweet, green or resinous.

Origin

No natural raw material and no extraction. Perfumers build the accord from clean musks for the washed-cotton base, a metallic-ozonic thread for the indigo impression, transparent musks and aldehydes for cotton-like softness, and a trace of ambrette or Cashmeran for skin warmth. Indigo dye sits on the surface of cotton rather than inside the fibre, which is why denim fades, and each wash strips a little more of the dye character out of the cloth.

Usage in Perfumery

A casual, ungendered backdrop in skin-scent, minimalist and textile-themed compositions. Pyramid placement is not fixed. Première Peau places it heart-to-base. Andrea Maack's INDIGO Extract puts a custom Jeans Accord in the top note next to Asphalt, then moves to lavender and orris over sandalwood and musks.
