Kuromoji
Note Profile
About
Soft, clean wood with a gentle floral sweetness
Scent Profile
Kuromoji smells of a fresh, clean wood with a gentle sweetness. A soft floral note runs through it, close to rosewood but less rosy. A mild spice and a light, airy herbal freshness sit at the edges. It is quiet and transparent rather than bold.

Origin
Kuromoji is the essential oil of Lindera umbellata, an aromatic spicebush tree endemic to Japan. Japan Aroma states that it is steam distilled from the branches and leaves. Its main components are linalool, alpha-pinene, geranyl acetate and 1,8-cineole.
Usage in Perfumery
It is used in fine fragrance, personal care and home fragrance as a soft woody heart that adds balance rather than strength. Three Holistic Research Center says it draws attention as a stand-in for rosewood oil. It blends with citrus, spice and rose, especially lemon, black pepper and rose.
