Muhuhu is the oil steam distilled from the heartwood of Brachylaena hutchinsii, a tree of East Africa, mainly Kenya and Tanzania. It is also called African sandalwood. It smells dense and woody, with earthy, smoky and faintly leathery notes. It is dry and strong, without the creamy sweetness of true sandalwood, and can turn slightly balsamic. It is used as a base note.
