Raspberry Ketone is a synthetic ketone compound (4-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butanone) first isolated from natural raspberries (Rubus idaeus) and also found in rhubarb, blackberry, loganberry, and cranberry. It is now produced synthetically via chemical synthesis for fragrance use, offering consistent quality and regulatory compliance (IFRA 51, Category 4). The molecule's phenolic structure and low odor threshold make it highly efficient in formulation.

Usage in Perfumery

Perfumers employ Raspberry Ketone as a multifunctional ingredient: as a top-note brightener to add vibrancy, a heart modifier to smooth fruity and floral accords, and a base booster to enhance vanilla, amber, and woody drydowns. It is particularly valued in jasmine, gardenia, and tuberose compositions where fruity undertones are needed, and in powdery-floral and gourmand fragrances. Typical usage is 0.4-1.0% in finished fragrance (within IFRA limits); its exceptional longevity (>400 hours on a smelling strip) makes it an alternative to synthetic musks for fixation.
