About

Stemone, an aroma chemical with a fresh green smell of crushed fig leaves and tomato stems.

Scent Profile

Stemone smells fresh, natural and leafy green, like crushed fig leaves and snapped tomato stems. It has a fruity edge of blackcurrant bud and a crisp, almost minty clarity. One perfumer places it between galbanum and fig leaf.

Origin

Givaudan's name for 5-methyl-3-heptanone oxime (CAS 22457-23-4), made by synthesis.

Usage in Perfumery

Perfumers use it as a modifier to make green notes more natural and modern. Givaudan name lily of the valley, narcissus, mandarin, fig leaf, grapefruit, blackcurrant and tomato accords, and pair it with Spirogalbanone for a vetiveryl acetate effect.
