Dark Knight opens with an intoxicating rush of dark rum and sugar cane, quickly joined by bitter dark chocolate that sets up a boozy-gourmand tone very close to Kilian's Black Phantom. The coffee and caramel heart is the strongest part of the composition, delivering that roasted, almost espresso-martini richness the original is known for, with almond and heliotrope adding a soft marzipan sweetness underneath. Where this diverges from Black Phantom is in complexity: the Alexandria version is louder and sweeter from the start, missing some of the smoky, ambery depth that makes the original so moody. The sandalwood-cedar base is creamy and pleasant but comparatively simple, giving a warm, cozy trail rather than a genuinely seductive dry-down. Performance is respectable for evening wear, projecting well for a few hours before settling close to skin. For anyone chasing that rum-and-coffee gourmand vibe without the niche price tag, this delivers most of the appeal, just with less nuance.
