Dark Knight opens with an intoxicating rush of dark rum and sugar cane, quickly joined by bitter dark chocolate that sets up a boozy-gourmand tone very close to Kilian's Black Phantom. The coffee and caramel heart is the strongest part of the composition, delivering that roasted, almost espresso-martini richness the original is known for, with almond and heliotrope adding a soft marzipan sweetness underneath. Where this diverges from Black Phantom is in complexity: the Alexandria version is louder and sweeter from the start, missing some of the smoky, ambery depth that makes the original so moody.
