Aromara Direction is an Extrait de Parfum. Direction opens with Rose, Hazelnut, and Pear, settles into a heart of Jasmine, Saffron, and Frankincense, and dries down to a base of Akigalawood, Sandalwood, and Vanilla. Aromara's Direction carries an Acquired verdict, a incense-led wear.

Direction is Aromara's take on Amouage Guidance, the frankincense-and-rose powerhouse from Amouage's Renaissance collection that niche collectors have been hunting since release. Aromara replicates the frankincense-rose core well but softens the akigalawood's distinctive resinous sourness that gives the original its signature edge, resulting in a rounder, sweeter incense than Amouage's more challenging original.

About

Guidance built its reputation on an unusually rich frankincense-rose pairing sharpened by akigalawood, a rare, resinous material that gives the original a slightly sour, almost fermented edge most incense fragrances don't have. Direction goes after that same architecture: pear, hazelnut and rose open it, frankincense, jasmine, saffron and olibanum build a dense incense heart, and vanilla, sandalwood and akigalawood anchor the base. The frankincense-rose combination is convincingly reproduced and is genuinely the star of Aromara's version, arriving rich and resinous from the first minutes. Where Direction pulls back is exactly where Guidance gets interesting - Amouage's akigalawood note has a distinctive, almost polarising sourness that collectors either love or find challenging, and Aromara smooths that edge into a more conventional sweet-resinous base, making Direction easier to wear but less singular than the original. The pear-hazelnut top is also gentler here, missing some of Guidance's nutty richness. What remains is still a genuinely opulent, incense-forward composition that captures the headline appeal of one of Amouage's most talked-about recent releases, at a fraction of the cost and with a gentler, more universally wearable character.
