Blossom Perfumery 184 Portrait of a Lady is an Eau de Parfum. 184 Portrait of a Lady opens with Rose, Cinnamon, Clove, and Raspberry, settles into a heart of Sandalwood, Patchouli, Rose, and Ylang-Ylang, and dries down to a base of Musk, Amber, Sandalwood, and Vanilla. Blossom Perfumery's 184 Portrait of a Lady carries a Statement verdict, a musk-led wear.

This dupe captures the rose-patchouli-incense skeleton of Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady but comes across flatter and less resinous, missing the original's famously huge, three-dimensional patchouli heart.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

About

No. 184 takes on one of niche perfumery's most maximalist roses, opening with the same spiced rose and dark berry combination that defines Portrait of a Lady before moving into a patchouli-incense heart. The ambition is clear and the note list matches closely, but the execution is inevitably more compressed - Frederic Malle's original is built around an enormous, almost overdosed patchouli that keeps unfolding for hours, while this version's patchouli reads thinner and settles faster into a simpler ambery-woody base. The incense here is more of a suggestion than the thick, smoky presence in the original. It is a reasonable way to sample the general silhouette of a scent that is genuinely hard to dupe, and it will still turn heads with its rose-forward opening, but the drydown loses most of the density and warmth that make the reference fragrance so distinctive, fading to a light musk within a few hours.
