Blossom Perfumery 471 Ultra Male is an Eau de Parfum. 471 Ultra Male opens with Bergamot, Lemon, Lavender, and Pear, settles into a heart of Caraway, Cinnamon, and Clary Sage, and dries down to a base of Amber, Cedar, Patchouli, and Vanilla. Blossom Perfumery's 471 Ultra Male carries an Acquired verdict, a vanilla-led wear.

No.471 recreates Jean Paul Gaultier Ultra Male's sweet pear-and-vanilla signature reasonably well up top, but the cinnamon-spice heart is quieter and the vanilla base loses its creamy, almost gourmand thickness far sooner than the original.

About

Ultra Male made its name with an unapologetically sweet, fruity-vanilla take on the masculine fougere, and No.471 follows the same script: a juicy pear-lavender-mint opening that is bright and immediately recognisable. It holds up well for the first hour, with the cinnamon and clary sage heart adding a fair bit of the spicy warmth that anchors the original. Where it comes up short is the base - Ultra Male's black vanilla husk accord has a dense, almost boozy richness that lingers for hours, while this version's vanilla-amber-patchouli finish is lighter and thins out noticeably by evening's end. It is still a fun, crowd-pleasing scent for a night out, just don't expect the same staying power once the initial sweetness settles.
