Byblos In Black is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2011, created by Guillaume Flavigny. In Black opens with Grapefruit, Neroli, and Pepper, settles into a heart of Resins, Sweet Notes, and Geranium, and dries down to a base of Virginia Cedarwood, Vetiver, Patchouli, and Tonka Bean. Byblos's In Black carries a Favourite verdict, a woody-led wear.

Divisive, intriguing, and undeniably similar to Terre d'Hermes, In Black offers a sophisticated, peppery citrus and woody experience that's either a fantastic budget alternative or a confusing misstep.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Spring Fall Winter
Also Works:
Summer

Versatile across every season - no clear seasonal preference from wearers.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Date Casual
Also Works:
Office Formal

Its moderate performance and sophisticated, peppery-woody profile make it suitable for office and casual wear, and especially for dates where its alluring nature can shine. While it has formal elements, the woody intensity might be too bold for some formal settings, and it's definitely not for sport due to its lack of freshness.

About

In Black opens with a sharp, peppery kick, swiftly joined by the zest of grapefruit and a hint of bright neroli. As the initial spice mellows, a resinous sweetness emerges, creating a soft, almost powdery heart. The dry down settles into a masculine blend of dry Virginia cedarwood, earthy vetiver and patchouli, softened by the warm, balsamic notes of tonka bean and benzoin.
