Amber Purpose

Perfume Parlour Amber Purpose is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2023. Amber Purpose opens with Frankincense, Pepper, Pink Pepper, and Allspice, settles into a heart of Vetiver, Papyrus, Sandalwood, and Rose, and dries down to a base of Musk, Akigalawood, Saffron, and Suede. Perfume Parlour's Amber Purpose carries an Acquired verdict, a woody-led wear.

A budget take on Amouage's acclaimed Purpose - the same fiery, smoky incense and pepper over earthy woods, saffron and suede. Amber Purpose captures that dusty, desert-spicy character but reads flatter and less radiant, missing the depth, complexity and 11-hour performance of the niche original.

About

Amber Purpose opens fiery and smoky: frankincense and cracked black and pink pepper sharpened by a cinnamon-like pimento berry and a sliver of bergamot - the bold signature of Amouage's Purpose (2023), a spicy-woody niche favourite. The heart turns earthy and dry with grassy vetiver, papyrus, sandalwood and a touch of rose, before the base delivers sizzling saffron, woody akigalawood, soft suede and a pine-fresh mystikal facet. Perfume Parlour's interpretation captures that desolate, desert-rock character - dusty, spicy and smoky - convincingly. Compared with the original it reads a fraction flatter and less radiant, the incense and woods thinner and the blend less artfully complex, so it misses some of Purpose's striking depth and its impressive 11-hour longevity. Here, longevity is moderate. The effect is still bold and sophisticated - a smoky, spicy statement scent. Best in autumn and winter, with enough lift for cool spring days, it suits evenings, formal occasions and dates.
