It does not stay fresh for long: the heart turns resinous and smoky as olibanum frankincense and leathery labdanum take over, shifting the mood from cool clarity to quiet incense. The drydown settles into a calm woody base, dry cedar and gurjan balsam wrapped in soft musk, evoking the Japanese-temple-in-a-forest image reviewers give the original. It is a clear nod to Eucalyptus 20, one of Le Labo's woody-aromatic Classic Collection scents. Where the original is complex and especially well-rounded, this version reads simpler and the incense-to-wood transition less seamless.
