Crimson Chaos

Perfume Parlour Crimson Chaos is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2023. Crimson Chaos opens with Saffron, Blackcurrant, Bergamot, and Lemon, settles into a heart of Plum, Oak, and Praline, and dries down to a base of Oud, Patchouli, and Papyrus. Perfume Parlour's Crimson Chaos carries an Acquired verdict, a woody-led wear.

Perfume Parlour's budget version of Byredo Rouge Chaotique, the chaotic saffron-plum-and-oud art piece. It captures the tart fruity opening and jammy plum-praline heart over smoky oud, though it reads sweeter and simpler than the polarising, complex original - a more wearable, less audacious take.

About

Crimson Chaos follows Byredo's Rouge Chaotique: a juicy, decadent opening of tart saffron and black currant with bergamot and lemon, bright and a little sour. The heart turns jammy and gourmand - syrupy plum and toasty praline with a touch of oak - before the base reveals the intoxicating part: smoky oud blended with patchouli and dry papyrus. Against the niche original, the PP take keeps that fruity-spicy-woody DNA but leans sweeter and more straightforwardly pleasant, smoothing over the chaotic, animalic, polarising edges that made the designer an art piece. That actually makes it more wearable for some - reviewers report compliments at six hours. As a budget oil it holds reasonably but projects and lasts a bit short of the above-average original. A bold, sweet-smoky woody-spicy for cold-weather evenings and dates.
