Fading Out

Fading Out opens with a floral burst of Bulgarian rose and geranium, the bright, slightly green start that defines Sospiro's Diapason. The woods come forward next - atlas cedar and smoky guaiac wood building a refined woody heart - before a base of Haitian vetiver, amber and musk gives a soft, powdery finish. Against the niche original the dupe reads a touch flatter and less velvety: the elegant, polished transition from floral top to amber drydown is simplified, and the impressive longevity is the biggest casualty. It wears as a sophisticated rose-woody scent that works across cooler seasons and suits the office, evenings and dressier occasions alike. Projection is modest and longevity skin-close after the opening hours, the usual budget trade against the famously 12-hour, well-projecting original. As a smell-alike it captures the rose-geranium-and-woods elegance of Diapason while losing some of the refinement and staying power.
