A budget take on the classic YSL Rive Gauche, Graceful opens exactly where the original does: a frosty, electric blast of aldehydes laced with green notes, bergamot and a soft honeysuckle-peach lift. The heart unfolds into a stately floral bouquet - rose, powdery iris, jasmine, ylang and lily of the valley - before a base of earthy oakmoss, vetiver, clean musk and sandalwood lends the dry, sophisticated finish. Set against the real Rive Gauche it reads more two-dimensional, the aldehydes less sharp-metallic and the mossy base thinner, so it trades some of the vintage edge for a softer, easier powdery floral. Projection is moderate and turns close after the first hours, with respectable rather than the original's standout longevity. Even so, for the money it captures that elegant, aldehydic-floral signature convincingly - a soapy, powdery, grown-up bouquet that suits the office, formal occasions, daily wear and evenings across spring and cooler months, reading as refined, composed and quietly bold.
