Velvety Tonka

Velvety Tonka is the Rogue Perfumes reading of BDK Parfums Velvet Tonka from its Dubai Collection Exclusive line, opening with the almond and orange blossom pairing that defines the original's first impression. Almond is the lead and reads marzipan-soft rather than amaretto-strong, while orange blossom adds a refined floral lift. The heart pulls in tobacco and rose oil. Tobacco is the dominant note and gives the heart phase the smoky velvet character that gave the BDK original its reputation. Rose adds noble floral depth and keeps the tobacco from going industrial. This is where Velvety Tonka feels most faithful to the niche reference. The base is the centrepiece. Tonka bean and bourbon vanilla drive the creamy gourmand cocoon, with amberwood and amyris providing the sophisticated woody backbone. The dry-down is rich and lingering, with the tonka-vanilla pairing reading as the velvet that the perfume is named for. Projection is moderate-to-strong for the first three hours and the wear stretches to eight on skin.
