St Giles The Actress is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2017, created by Bertrand Duchaufour. The Actress opens with Mastic, Bergamot, Lemon, and Bitter Orange, settles into a heart of Lily, Orchid, Honeysuckle, and Pear, and dries down to a base of Musk, Sandalwood, Patchouli, and Vanilla. St Giles's The Actress carries a Statement verdict, a green-led wear.

A glamorous lily and orchid floral with a zingy tomato leaf and basil opening, set on sandalwood and vanilla custard. Seductive and elegant, it is a show piece that wearers love, though a few find it fades sooner than hoped.

Showing: Overall Blend

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Spring Autumn Winter
Also Works:
Summer

Spring leads the votes and the other three seasons follow closely, so it wears all year. Warm vanilla and sandalwood help in autumn and winter, and the zingy green opening keeps it light enough for spring.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Date Casual
Also Works:
Office Formal

Night-out and evening wear lead the votes, with leisure and day wear close behind. It is a statement scent, so the office is a less natural fit and sport is the weakest.

About

The Actress is the St Giles character built for an entrance: dramatic, glamorous and a little knowing. Michael Donovan's London house asked Bertrand Duchaufour to give each character its own scent, and this one throws a spotlight on the wearer without becoming a diva. It opens with a surprising, zingy-green burst of tomato leaf and basil over Calabrian lemon, bitter orange and bergamot. After about ten minutes a thick, velvety bouquet of oriental lily and orchid begins to billow, with Egyptian jasmine, honeysuckle and a restrained, slightly savoury pear fluttering around it. The base is warm and creamy: sandalwood and musk, a little patchouli, and a vanilla custard finish that wearers describe as clean yet seductive. It is light yet powerful, with a strong trail early on and a quieter, creamy floral presence through the day, although one wearer finds it shorter-lived than hoped and another loses the tomato leaf within the hour. It wears in every season, most easily in spring, and suits evenings, nights out and leisure better than the office. It sits closer to a lush white-floral niche scent than to a sweet designer, and wearers mostly read it as feminine, although one calls it wearable by a man in the evening. Sold in 50 ml and 100 ml, it is worth a sample first, because the lily is the whole show.
