The Essence Vault Arabians Tonka - 387 is an Eau de Parfum. Arabians Tonka - 387 opens with Bergamot and Saffron, settles into a heart of Oud and Rose, and dries down to a base of Amber, Tonka Bean, and Caramel. The Essence Vault's Arabians Tonka - 387 carries a Statement verdict, a sweet-led wear.

No. 387 borrows the saffron-rose-oud-tonka blueprint of Montale's Arabians Tonka, but trades the original's famously nuclear projection and 12-hour longevity for a much softer, sweeter, shorter-lived version. The oud reads thinner and more synthetic here, and the caramelised sugar base is pushed louder to compensate, so it leans gourmand-amber rather than the original's dense, resinous oud-rose. A reasonable taste of the style at a fraction of the projection.

A sweet, resinous oud-and-tonka composition is built for cold-weather richness; the sugared amber base would feel cloying in summer heat.

Formal

The oud-rose-tonka combination is too dense and sweet for daytime office wear, but its opulence suits evening dates and dressier occasions.

About

The Essence Vault's No. 387 takes its cue from Montale's Arabians Tonka, keeping the same core architecture of spiced saffron and bergamot over a rose-and-oud heart, finished with a sweet tonka-amber base. Where Montale's original is a genuine powerhouse - reviewers routinely describe it as nuclear in both projection and longevity, easily clearing 10-12 hours - No. 387 is a considerably gentler proposition. The oud accord is noticeably thinner and more one-dimensional than the rich, resinous agarwood in the original, and the rose sits further back. To compensate, the dupe pushes its caramelised brown sugar and amber base forward, giving it a sweeter, more straightforwardly gourmand character than the spicy, woody intensity Montale built its reputation on. It still delivers a recognisably opulent, warm-weather-unfriendly composition well suited to cold evenings and date nights, just at a fraction of the original's room-filling sillage and with performance that tapers well before the six-hour mark.
