About Desigual

Desigual is a Spanish fashion and fragrance brand founded by Swiss businessman Thomas Meyer in 1984. The company was created in Barcelona and is headquartered there; its official history attributes the brand's early identity to a jacket made from reused denim and to the motto "no es lo mismo," meaning "it's not the same." Meyer remains associated with the business through the holding company La Vida Es Chula, while Eurazeo held a 10 percent stake after investing in 2014 before Meyer later bought back part of that stake.

Desigual entered fragrance in 2014 with Love, Sex and Fun, followed by releases including You, Fresh, Dark, Dark Fresh, Fresh Bloom, Fresh World and the Fresh Festival line. The fragrance catalogue is built around accessible designer compositions rather than a single house signature: fresh citrus and fruity florals sit alongside sweeter amber, musk, woods and darker oriental-inspired styles. Named perfumers connected with the catalogue include Olivier Cresp, Christophe Raynaud, Sonia Constant, Daphné Bugey, Fabrice Pellegrin, Juliette Karagueuzoglu, Véronique Nyberg and Violaine Collas. The overall direction is colourful, youthful and easy to wear, with the strongest identity coming from the contrast between bright fresh scents and more sensual dark releases.

Brand Evolution

The fragrance line began in 2014 with Love, Sex and Fun, establishing a youthful and sensual entry into perfumery. In 2015, the range broadened with You, Fresh, Dark and Dark Fresh, adding clearer fresh and darker contrasts. Later releases such as Fresh Bloom in 2017, Fresh World in 2018 and Fresh Festival in 2019 continued the accessible, upbeat direction rather than developing a highly exclusive niche style.

Quick Verdict

Desigual offers affordable, easygoing fragrances with a colourful fashion-brand personality, but most of the line is more approachable than distinctive. Its best use case is casual daily wear, not deep complexity or niche-level originality.
