Hart + Hedi
Independent Australian artisan house crafting concept-driven, native-flora-focused eau de parfum.
Hart + Hedi is an independent Australian fragrance house founded by perfumers Juliette Fournier and Richard Adamson, based in St Peters, Sydney. The project grew out of four years of formulation work before any bottle went on sale, with the founders personally composing the scents and producing them locally in Australia. The name references both "heart and head" and Hedi, Juliette’s grandmother, who ran a flower shop in Switzerland in the 1940s and strongly shaped her creative sensibility.
The brand works extensively with Australian native flora alongside consciously selected ingredients from around the world, aiming to translate specific places, occasions and memories into perfume. Its initial collection comprises six eau de parfum: Rock + Roll Circus, Some Velvet Morning, Cocktail Hour, Coastal Fever, House of Hart and Hedi’s Garden, each built around a distinct concept designed to trigger emotional and sensory associations for the wearer. Coastal Fever, for example, opens with Kimberley heath, honeysuckle and an ocean breeze accord, moves through Australian mimosa, boronia and blue cypress, and settles into Buddha wood, agar oud and Northern sandalwood, reflecting the warmth and light of the Australian coastline.
Hart + Hedi formulates with a strong focus on safety and ethics: fragrances are cruelty free and vegan, with no added phthalates, parabens, nitrated or polycyclic musks, or artificial colours. All perfume making, filling and packaging take place in Australia, and a portion of profits is committed to organizations supporting vulnerable women in the country. Artwork by Sydney artist Glenn Smith appears on the packaging, reinforcing the house’s connection to local creative culture.
The overall style leans toward modern artisan compositions with clear narrative intent, balancing native botanicals with carefully structured accords. Hart + Hedi positions itself as a purpose driven, small scale perfume house where the founders’ backgrounds in design, textiles, music and botanical extraction shape an experimental yet polished approach to scent.
A indie, premium house known for woody compositions.
Hart + Hedi began with six core fragrances developed over four years, reflecting a slow, meticulous approach to formulation. Early communication focused strongly on native flora, cruelty free and vegan ingredients, and small scale Australian production. Over time, the brand has expanded into discovery sets, collaborations like whisky-inspired HALFSHOT, and cultural partnerships such as events with the Sydney Symphony Vanguard series, reinforcing its identity at the intersection of scent, art and music. As the range grows, the house appears to be leaning further into storytelling and synesthetic experiences while maintaining its ethical formulation stance.
Hart + Hedi is a thoughtful, concept-first Australian indie house with distinctive native botanicals and clean formulations that will appeal to niche-oriented wearers. If you value narrative, ethics and artisan detail over brand hype and huge catalogues, it is worth seeking out despite limited global availability.
