Parlez-Moi d’Amour
Eau de Parfum
John Galliano
High-drama designer perfumes with vintage-inflected florals and theatrical styling.
John Galliano fragrances are an offshoot of the fashion label founded by British designer John Charles Galliano, who established his own brand in 1988 after graduating with first class honours from Central Saint Martins in London. Galliano built his name on historically influenced, theatrical couture, a style that translated directly into his early perfume projects.
The first signature scent, John Galliano by John Galliano Eau de Parfum, launched in 2008, created by perfumers Aurélien Guichard and Christine Nagel. It was conceived as a dramatic floral aldehydic composition and has been described by Galliano himself as reflecting the "bruised, shadowed spirit" of his muse Marchesa Luisa Casati. A lighter Eau de Toilette interpretation followed in 2010, presenting a more daytime, transparent take on the same theme.
Subsequent releases such as Parlez-Moi d'Amour expanded the line into more youthful, romantic territory while retaining a stylised, fashion-forward character. Production and distribution for the John Galliano fragrance line have been handled within the LVMH ecosystem, which acquired his fashion company in 1994 when Galliano became head designer at Dior.
Although the fragrance catalogue is relatively compact compared with the major designer houses, John Galliano scents are known among enthusiasts for their theatrical presentation, detailed bottle design and willingness to foreground powdery florals, aldehydes and complex, sometimes dark base accords rather than easy crowd-pleasing formulas.
A designer, premium house known for floral aldehydic compositions.
The fragrance line began with highly stylised, couture-oriented scents like the 2008 John Galliano Eau de Parfum, which took a bold floral aldehydic direction uncommon in mainstream launches of that period. Later creations such as Parlez-Moi d'Amour moved slightly closer to youthful fruity-floral territory while maintaining a romantic, fashion-story concept. Over time, distribution has contracted and the line has become more of a connoisseur's curiosity than a front-line designer franchise, but its early releases have gained a small cult following among fans of dramatic, retro-inspired perfumery.
If you enjoy theatrical, vintage-tinged designer perfumes and do not mind some difficulty tracking bottles down, John Galliano is worth seeking out. If you prefer easy, fresh everyday scents, this line will likely feel too stylised and demanding.
