About Shalini Parfum

Shalini Parfum is a New York based haute parfumerie house founded in 2004 by designer Shalini Kumar, who previously worked in haute couture and fashion for houses such as Valentino. The brand launched at Bergdorf Goodman in 2004 with its eponymous debut perfume, Shalini, created in collaboration with master perfumer Maurice Roucel. This first fragrance established the house’s focus on pure parfum concentration and rare natural materials, including tuberose absolute, neroli from the south of France and tiare from Tahiti.

From the beginning, Shalini Parfum was conceived as a heritage style house built on classical French perfumery principles, translating Kumar’s personal memories and travels into highly polished compositions. The collection has grown into a small series of pure parfums such as Jardin Nocturne, Paradis Provence, Amorem Rose, Iris Lumière, Vanille Rêve, Fleur Japonais and Gold, each linked to specific places and moments in her life, from childhood gardens in India to landscapes in Seville and Provence. All fragrances in the main line are composed by Maurice Roucel, making Shalini Parfum the only complete brand collection authored exclusively by him.

The house positions itself squarely in the luxury segment, with high concentration formulas, limited crystal presentations by Lalique for some editions, and pricing that reflects its focus on rare naturals and artisanal production. Shalini Parfum fragrances are distributed through select retailers and specialty perfume boutiques, including Bergdorf Goodman and niche perfumery shops in Europe and the US.

Brand Evolution

The Shalini Parfum line began in 2004 with the singular white floral Shalini and gradually expanded into a curated collection exploring different facets of Kumar’s life and travels. Later releases such as Paradis Provence, Iris Lumière, Vanille Rêve, Fleur Japonais and Gold broadened the palette from tuberose centric compositions to include Provence herbs, iris, cherry blossom themes and gourmand vanilla, while still retaining the pure parfum concentration and classical construction. Over time, the brand has leaned more explicitly into story driven perfumery, framing each scent as a chapter in an overarching narrative and reinforcing its positioning as a modern haute parfumerie house.

Quick Verdict

Shalini Parfum is a tightly curated, story led luxury house for people who value rich pure parfums and meticulous materials more than versatility or price. If you enjoy Maurice Roucel’s style and want his most concentrated, narrative driven work, this brand is worth seeking out despite the cost.
