Scent Profile

Brioche smells rich and buttery first, soft and creamy. A sweet, vanilla-toned note follows, close to caramelised sugar in the crumb, with a faint yeasty depth. A toasted, nutty crust sits on top. Some brioche perfumes add a dry, hay-like cereal edge underneath.

Origin

Prepared. A built gourmand accord, not a distillate. Perfume Stars describes it as lactones for the butter, vanillin and coumarin for the warmth, and toasted-bread materials for the crust. Anatole Lebreton's Brioche shows one perfumer's execution of the idea, with honey, tonka and wheat bran absolute over sandalwood and hay.

Usage in Perfumery

12 Fragrantica perfumes and 37 Parfumo perfumes (Parfumo, 2026-10-10). Used to give a gourmand a fatty, baked body instead of a sugar one. It softens dry woods and balances spices rather than leading a composition.
