Scent Profile
Peach Melba smells of ripe peach and raspberry together, the fruit at the centre of it. A creamy vanilla-ice-cream note runs underneath, softening the fruit rather than sitting apart from it. The vanilla itself gives a clear sweetness through the whole thing. A light powdery, faintly tart edge comes from the sugared raspberry, kept mild since it arrives folded into the sweeter parts rather than on its own.

A composed accord with no plant or molecule behind it. The referent is a plated dessert: "a dessert of peaches and raspberry sauce with vanilla ice cream" (Wikipedia). Escoffier first served it at the Savoy as peaches over vanilla ice cream on an ice swan, and added the raspberry purée later. A perfumer reaching for it is reconstructing all three parts. Peach and raspberry both have workable natural and synthetic routes. The frozen vanilla custard has none, so that part is always built from vanillic and lactonic synthetics.
