About

Fantasy cereal note. Cut grass and dry earth over toasted grain and bread crust.

Scent Profile

Green and nutty are tied because the single source found puts them in that order and gives both as dominant. It opens 'a green, slightly sweet aroma that carries the scent of freshly cut grass mixed with dry earth', then closes on 'a warm, slightly nutty, bready quality'. Tobacco_hay is the dry cereal-straw facet every grain note in this vocabulary carries (cereals 0.72, barley 0.60, oat 0.60, wheat 0.45), and it is supported here by 'hints of toasted grain'. Earthy is the 'dry earth' in the lead sentence plus the 'earthy undertones contribute to a rustic, grounded quality' that follows it. Sweet_vanillic is the 'slightly sweet' and 'bread crust' reading, held down because the source never calls rye caramelised. Below the naming line, aromatic_herbal sits for the 'soft, herbal layered' phrase, and sour for 'fermented dough' - rye is the sourdough grain, and that is the one facet that distinguishes it from wheat on the food side rather than the perfumery side.

Origin

There is no rye essential oil. Premiere Peau states it plainly: 'no standard commercial rye essential oil exists for perfumery. The scent is recreated using grain-like synthetic accords'. Secale cereale is a field crop, not a traded perfumery raw material. The note is built, and the same source names the palette it is built from: maltol, ethyl maltol, furfural and coumarinic materials. That puts rye in the same constructed-cereal family as bread, cereals and malt, which are also accords rather than extracts.

Usage in Perfumery

Heart note by the source's own label: 'a heart-level conceptual note evoking grain, bread crust, and fermented dough'. It is used in gourmand and pastoral compositions, where the same source says it 'provides a warm, slightly nutty, bready quality'. Attested in 8 Fragrantica perfumes and no Parfumo entries, so this is a rare note and the vector rests on very little published use.
