Scent Profile
Rye smells of freshly cut grass mixed with dry earth, green and slightly sweet at the same time. It closes on a warm, nutty, bready note, like toasted grain and a fresh crust. A dry, straw-like dryness runs behind the grain, and a mild sweetness sits over the bread crust.

Origin
There is no rye essential oil. Premiere Peau states it plainly: 'no standard commercial rye essential oil exists for perfumery. The scent is recreated using grain-like synthetic accords'. Secale cereale is a field crop, not a traded perfumery raw material. The note is built, and the same source names the palette it is built from: maltol, ethyl maltol, furfural and coumarinic materials.
Usage in Perfumery
Heart note by Premiere Peau's own label: it calls rye a heart-level conceptual note evoking grain, bread crust and fermented dough. It is used in gourmand and pastoral compositions, where Premiere Peau says it gives a warm, slightly nutty, bready quality.
