Sugar cookie is the pale, soft-baked butter cookie made from flour, sugar, butter, egg and vanilla, usually finished with white icing or sugar sprinkles. As a perfumery accord it is read through sugar, butter and vanilla rather than through toasted grain, which is what separates it from the general Cookie note.

Scent Profile

Sweet_vanillic is nearly the whole note and both sources lead with it: 'a sweet medley of sugary notes mingled with warm butter aroma and vanillic accords' and 'Sweet vanilla cookies covered in sugar sprinkles blended with warm vanilla extract'. It sits just under published sugar at 0.95 because butter pulls some of the sweetness into a creamy shape, and above cookie at 0.88 because nothing here is competing with it. Lactonic is the butter and the buttercream, which both sources name as a lead rather than as a trace: 'warm butter aroma', 'sweet butter notes from the buttercream icing', 'buttercream'. That is well above cookie at 0.38 and below butter itself at 0.85, because it is butter inside a baked crumb, not butter on its own. Nutty is the weakest number in this file and I am naming it as such. No source found for sugar cookie mentions nutty, toasted grain or hazelnut at all, and the temptation was to zero it and win a clean separation from cookie at 0.48. Zeroing a facet because my sources did not mention it would be asserting an absence nobody claimed, so it carries a floor for baked flour and the widest spread here. Powdery is the icing sugar and the sprinkles, and is my mapping of 'sugar sprinkles' and 'creamy vanilla frosting' onto a facet, not a word any source used. Fruity, warm_spice and tobacco_hay are all at or below for the same reason as nutty: they are plausible in a baked sugar cookie and no source names them, so they get a floor and a wide spread instead of a zero.

Origin

Not a raw material. It is a composed gourmand accord, built from vanillin and ethyl vanillin, sugar and caramel materials, and creamy lactones standing in for butter and buttercream. No manufacturer or perfumery-materials house was found selling 'sugar cookie' as a captive or a base. Every source describing it is a finished fragrance or a DIY blend, so the evidence here is community reliability and nothing better.

Usage in Perfumery

Attested in 5 Fragrantica perfumes and none on Parfumo. Use it in the base of a sweet gourmand where a pale, buttery, iced-biscuit sweetness is wanted rather than the darker toasted-grain register of Cookie or the raw floury one of Cookie Dough. It is close enough to Cupcake to be interchangeable in most compositions.
