About

Nutty Notes is a group note for the roasted and marzipan side of the gourmand family. It is almond and praline more than it is a raw nut, because that is what perfumery actually uses - benzaldehyde and the lactones around it rather than anything pressed from a kernel.

Scent Profile

Roasted nut first, clearly sweet and vanillic behind it. A creamy lactonic softness, a powdery marzipan character, and a little cacao at the back.

Origin

No single source. The weighted common ground of 27 published notes whose leading facet is nutty - almond, praline, hazelnut, pistachio and chestnut lead it, with peach blossom and plum blossom beside them because a stone-fruit blossom smells of almond and not of fruit.

Usage in Perfumery

A nutty accord sits in the heart and the base of a gourmand and gives it something to be sweet about besides sugar. Perfumers use it under vanilla to stop the vanilla reading flat, and beside heliotrope for a powdery almond effect.
