1667 Rouge is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2021. Rouge opens with Marigold, Bergamot, and Lime, settles into a heart of Oud, Jasmine, Saffron, and Canadian Fir Balsam, and dries down to a base of Musk, Amber, Cedar, and Patchouli. 1667's Rouge carries an Acquired verdict, a fresh-led wear.

The saffron-and-amber crowd-pleaser of La Collection Royale, and the one whose intentions are least subtle. Bright citrus up front, then a broad ambergris and cedar base that does the lasting.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Fall Winter
Also Works:
Spring

Saffron, ambergris, amber and cedarwood build a dense warm base that cold air suits. The citrus opening is too brief to make it a summer wear.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Date Formal

Strong projection and an unmistakable saffron and amber signature push it towards evenings, dates and formal wear rather than a shared office.

Declarable allergens

We derive these from the materials behind this fragrance's notes, not from the bottle. Each one is likely, not confirmed. The list is partial - the box can name others.

About

Rouge is the most obviously commercial fragrance in La Collection Royale, and the red glass makes no attempt to hide it. The opening is citrus-led, with bergamot and lime giving a sharp, slightly bitter lift and tagete adding an unusual green-marigold sourness that keeps the first few minutes from being generic. It does not last long. Within a quarter of an hour the composition turns towards its real subject: saffron, which arrives dry and leathery with that faintly metallic warmth that anchors so many modern ambers, paired with a jasmine that reads more as a soft floral haze than a distinct flower. Fir balsam adds a resinous, faintly coniferous green underneath, and oud sits in the heart smoothed and thoroughly tamed rather than medicinal. The base is where it settles for the long haul. Ambergris and amber give a mineral, sunlit warmth, cedarwood and patchouli provide dryness and depth, and a powdery musk softens the edges into something clean and slightly sweet. Community discussion of this one keeps returning to a well-known saffron-and-amber reference point, and the comparison is fair enough on structure, though Rouge is drier and less sugary than the fragrance it is usually measured against. Performance is strong, with the base clearly audible many hours in. Best in cooler weather and after dark.
