1667 Rich Mandarin & Pepper is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2021. Rich Mandarin & Pepper opens with Bergamot, Grapefruit, Mandarin, and Pink Pepper, settles into a heart of Leather, Cardamom, Cinnamon, and Clove, and dries down to a base of Amber and Vanilla. 1667's Rich Mandarin & Pepper carries an Acquired verdict, a warm spicy-led wear.

The oldest idea in the house, carried over from 1667's original 2015 trio. A resinous citrus opening into a leather and tobacco spice heart, closing on vanilla and amber.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Fall Winter
Also Works:
Spring

The citrus and pink pepper opening gives it some daylight range, but cinnamon, clove, leather and amber weight it towards cold air. Summer would flatten the spice into sweetness.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Date Formal
Also Works:
Casual

A spiced citrus with a leather and tobacco heart is versatile enough for a smart day but projects too warmly for most shared offices. Evenings and occasions suit it best.

About

Rich Mandarin & Pepper is the one fragrance in La Collection Royale with a history, having appeared in 1667's original 2015 line-up before being reworked into the 2021 collection. It opens on a citrus accord that is deliberately more complicated than it needs to be. Mandarin gives the sweet, slightly candied heart of it, grapefruit and bergamot sharpen the edges, and elemi contributes a lemony resin with a peppery bite that bridges straight into the pink pepper alongside it. The effect is bright but never simply fresh, and it signals early that the fragrance is heading somewhere warmer. The heart delivers on that. Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and cardamom stack up into a properly spiced middle, and then leather and tobacco arrive underneath and change the character entirely, adding a dry, cured, slightly smoky depth that the spices alone would not have reached. This is the pivot that gives the composition its interest, and it happens sooner than expected. The base is short and does not complicate matters: vanilla and amber over precious woods, giving a soft, sweet, resinous landing that stays close to skin. Performance is good, with the leather and vanilla persisting well. It reads warmer than the name suggests, and cooler months and evenings suit it better than a bright summer day.
