John Richmond Black Metal is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2021, created by Mylène Alran. Black Metal opens with Bergamot, Lemon, and Elemi, settles into a heart of Davana, Mahonial, and Rose, and dries down to a base of Leather, Amber, Patchouli, and Tonka Bean. John Richmond's Black Metal carries a Statement verdict, a fresh-led wear.

This one's a proper rock-and-roll rebel, a love-it-or-hate-it kind of scent. Don't let the name fool you, it's not all doom and gloom; it's a smoky, leathery, and sweet ride that smells of edgy nights out and bold self-expression. Definitely not a blind buy.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

About

Black Metal kicks off with a bright, zesty burst of lemon and bergamot, given an unusual, almost camphorous edge by elemi. Soon, a dark, velvety rose emerges, wrapped in the fruity, hay-like nuances of davana, with mahonial adding a clean, abstract floral hum. The dry-down is where it truly earns its name, with a prominent leather note fused with earthy patchouli, a warm, resinous amber, and a creamy, vanillic tonka bean that lingers for hours.
