Match Fragrances Wood is an Eau de Parfum. Wood opens with Rosewood, Sichuan Pepper, and Cardamom, settles into a heart of Sandalwood, Vetiver, and Oud, and dries down to a base of Amber, Vanilla, and Tonka Bean. Match Fragrances's Wood carries a Favourite verdict, a woody-led wear.

Match Fragrances' interpretation of Tom Ford's Oud Wood (2007) - the Private Blend rosewood-oud-sandalwood composition that introduced gateway oud to Western luxury perfumery, here translated into a rosewood-cardamom opening over oud-sandalwood and a tonka-vanilla close. Honest dupe-fidelity for evening and formal wear at a fraction of the niche price.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Fall Winter
Also Works:
Spring

Oud-sandalwood-tonka backbone carries strongest in autumn and winter; spring and summer work in cooler settings. Not a hot-weather signature.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Date Formal
Also Works:
Office Casual

Polished oud-wood reads sophisticated for evening, date and formal; office works for those who like statement signatures. Too warm-heavy for sport.

About

Inspired by Oud Wood is Match Fragrances' budget reading of Tom Ford's 2007 Oud Wood, the Private Blend that introduced gateway oud to Western luxury perfumery and that remains Tom Ford's most-recommended starter for the oud category. Match's pyramid mirrors the original community pyramid: rosewood, cardamom and Chinese pepper on top, an oud-sandalwood-vetiver heart, and a tonka-vanilla-amber close. The first hour is the strongest match: rosewood and cardamom land warm with the pepper adding a quiet crackle, and the woody opening reads polished rather than harsh. By the heart the oud comes forward as the headline note - smoothed, balsamic, and approachable rather than the heavy barnyard oud of more traditional Middle Eastern compositions - with sandalwood and vetiver supporting. The dry-down leans on tonka bean for the sweet-warm anchor, with vanilla and amber adding the polished close that gives Oud Wood its signature luxury feel. Performance is the budget compromise: four to six hours of moderate sillage rather than the long-trail projection Oud Wood is famous for. The character is woody-amber-sophisticated and reads unisex, with autumn, winter and date and formal the natural settings. The honest caveat: at fifty millilitres for under thirty pounds, the Tom Ford's polished oud-sandalwood depth and the smooth woody sillage that made Oud Wood a niche staple are softened here, and the dupe reads cleaner and shorter-lasting than the Tom Ford bottle. Sits next to other budget oud-wood dupes in the dupe-house neighbourhood, while the original sits with Mancera Aoud Boise, Initio Oud for Greatness, and the broader gateway-oud niche conversation.
