Nicholas Charles' Halfeti opens with a fresh burst of bergamot, grapefruit and saffron, quickly settling into the rose-forward heart that defines the original. Bulgarian rose and jasmine are blended with nutmeg and cypress leaf here for a warm, slightly spicy floral character that tracks Penhaligon's celebrated composition closely. Oud, sandalwood, leather, amber and musk make up the base, aiming for the same exotic, opulent finish - though the dupe's oud reads thinner and less resinous than the real thing. Halfeti has built a strong reputation in the fragrance community for rich performance and a distinctive rose-oud pairing, and while this version captures the recognisable rose-spice heart well, it settles down to a much softer, closer-wearing scent within a few hours where the original keeps unfolding. A worthwhile way to sample Halfeti's exotic rose-oud direction without the niche price tag.
