Nicholas Charles' Halfeti opens with a fresh burst of bergamot, grapefruit and saffron, quickly settling into the rose-forward heart that defines the original. Bulgarian rose and jasmine are blended with nutmeg and cypress leaf here for a warm, slightly spicy floral character that tracks Penhaligon's celebrated composition closely. Oud, sandalwood, leather, amber and musk make up the base, aiming for the same exotic, opulent finish - though the dupe's oud reads thinner and less resinous than the real thing.
