Pearl Fragrances pushes that sugary opening even louder, leaning into the heliotrope-vanilla sweetness from the first spray, which makes the dupe's early character genuinely close to the original's signature trick. Where it falls away is in the middle and base: Roja's version builds real depth through cognac, ginger and a warm cardamom-heavy tobacco that develops for hours, described by fans as a masterpiece and by critics as gimmicky in equal measure. Here, the tobacco note is thinner and more generic, and the patchouli-benzoin base that should carry the fragrance into the evening instead collapses into a simple vanilla musk after a couple of hours. It captures the fun, boozy-cola idea at a fraction of the cost, but not the layered development that justifies Roja's price tag.
