Oud for Greatness follows Initio's 2018 release from the Black Gold Project, a woody-spicy oud fragrance often nicknamed the oud version of Baccarat Rouge 540 for its dominant saffron opening. Pearl Fragrances keeps that saffron-nutmeg spice loud and immediate, backed by a lavender freshness that mirrors reviewer descriptions of the original's opening act. The oud itself is toned down and smoothed out here - some reviewers of the real Initio note a brief barnyard funk in the first five minutes before it settles into clean wood, and this dupe skips straight to the cleaner stage, which some wearers may actually prefer. The patchouli-musk base that gives the original its reported nine-to-twelve hour longevity and strong projection is considerably thinner in this version, fading to a simple warm musk well before the original's famous staying power would kick in.
