Night Wood is Perfume Parlour's read on Montale's Black Aoud, the legendary rose-oud powerhouse. A flash of mandarin opens it before a rich, slightly jammy rose takes over, tangled with a dirty agarwood that gives it that recognisable animalic edge. The drydown leans on resinous labdanum and musk as the rose stays dominant and softens. Against the Montale - famous for genuinely nuclear, 12-hours-plus projection - this budget version reads flatter and far more wearable, with the oud's dirtiness toned down and longevity sitting much closer to the skin. That actually makes it easier to wear than the often-overwhelming original. The bold, mysterious rose-oud signature is well captured, making it a striking budget statement scent for cool-weather evenings and occasions that call for something dramatic.
