Pioneer

Perfume Parlour Pioneer is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2019. Pioneer opens with Clary Sage, Pink Pepper, and Bergamot, settles into a heart of Vetiver and Leather, and dries down to a base of Ambroxan, Akigalawood, Cacao Butter, and Patchouli. Perfume Parlour's Pioneer carries a Favourite verdict, a woody-led wear.

A budget take on Montblanc Explorer, that crowd-pleasing fresh-woody Aventus cousin. Pioneer lands the bergamot-and-pink-pepper opening and the vetiver-ambroxan woody core, but the leather and cacao facets read flatter, and it projects and lasts more modestly than the original.

About

Pioneer opens fresh and zesty, bright bergamot lifted by pink pepper and a green herbal touch of clary sage. It nods clearly to Explorer's crowd-pleasing, Aventus-adjacent character: clean, fruity-fresh and easy to like. The heart brings earthy Haitian vetiver and a whisper of leather, while the base leans on ambroxan for that modern woody-salty lift, rounded out by patchouli and a faint cacao sweetness. Against Montblanc's Explorer, this clone keeps the fresh-citrus-to-woody arc intact but renders the transitions smoother and the leather-cacao depth thinner, so it loses a little of the original's refinement. Explorer itself is no powerhouse, and the dupe sits a step softer again: moderate projection, a few hours of wear before it settles skin-close. As an affordable, versatile daily masculine for warmer months and the office, it does the job convincingly.
