Wood Substance takes on one of Tom Ford's strangest creations, Oud Minerale - oud taken to the beach. It opens with a wash of salty sea notes and aquatic minerals over a smooth, transparent oud, then a heart of green seaweed, styrax and pink pepper keeps that coastal, slightly briny signature front and centre. The drydown leans on ambergris, soft fir balsam and a lingering woody oud. Against the Tom Ford, this version reads flatter and a touch sharper - the eerie, ethereal balance between marine and oud is simplified, and longevity sits close to the skin rather than radiating mineral sophistication for hours. Still, it captures the genuinely unusual fresh-aquatic-oud concept impressively for the price, making a great budget option for warm-weather wear and anyone after an oud that isn't dark or smoky.
